Everything is priority one. How do you force an actual ranking?

When a manager says four things are all critical this week, what question gets you to a real order of operations without sounding combative?

“If only one ships Friday, which one should it be?” works absurdly well.

I put the list in writing with estimated effort and ask them to reorder it. People become much more realistic when tradeoffs are visible.
